Urban Intervention

Urban development in Mexico has evolved from its sophisticated pre-Hispanic roots to the adoption of the colonial grid model that defined cities such as Guadalajara. However, the accelerated growth and disordered expansion of the 20th century have generated critical challenges regarding sustainability, mobility, and quality of life that demand new planning models. In this scenario, the authors present the work Intervención urbana, a study that analyzes how transformations in the built environment can revitalize not only physical space but also the social and economic dynamics of the contemporary city.

This book arises under the "Aula Nacional" project initiative, a collaborative space whose purpose is for academic proposals to transcend classrooms and become real territorial management tools. Through this interdisciplinary effort, the researchers focus on the municipality of Tlaquepaque, identifying urban polygons with high untapped potential. The fundamental objective is to foster a critical and proactive vision in professionals in training, allowing them to respond to the complex demands of the Mexican territorial context.

The methodology employed by the authors integrates an exhaustive preliminary diagnosis with a rigorous field visit, successfully contrasting remote research with the direct reality of the environment. This process allowed for the detection of specific problems and "urban voids" in strategic areas such as Hacienda del Vidrio and Lomas de Tlaquepaque. By recognizing these areas of opportunity, the work establishes the foundations for a pertinent intervention that prioritizes problem recognition and the sectorization of the area for more effective solutions.

Finally, the work culminates in the development of a Master Plan that proposes the creation of sustainable neighborhoods through the use of green infrastructure and the optimization of mobility. The authors' vision is committed to building vibrant, resilient, and connected cities, where the proximity of services and the revitalization of public space strengthen the sense of community. Ultimately, this book is presented as a roadmap for transforming the urban landscape into an inclusive environment that significantly improves the quality of life for its inhabitants.
