Chapter 8: Modeling of graduate student services processes at a public university in southeastern Mexico through Business Process Management
Synopsis
Business process management (BPM) is a key tool in the business environment. In the educational context, the digitization of processes involves the incorporation and use of technologies aimed at transforming academic and administrative activities to meet the growing demand for attention from the academic community. The objective of this work is to present the modeling of academic processes oriented to the attention of graduate students in a Mexican University, ensuring that the processes are aligned with institutional regulations, providing attention to users and facilitating data-driven decision making. The content of the book chapter outlines a qualitative, projective, non-experimental, cross-sectional and non-correlational research. It starts with a diagnosis of the current processes, models the processes using the BPM notation and, in a practical way, exemplifies the modeling of a process called Follow-up of Linking Stays using BonitaSoft as a tool for its structuring and automation. The expected results include greater traceability of activities, time reduction in the management of academic procedures and the assurance of alignment with institutional regulations. In this way, a methodological framework is presented that can be applied to other higher education institutions seeking to improve their operational efficiency through BPM.
